PEDAGOGY, ITS PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

Pedagogy refers to the theory and practice of teaching and learning (TnL). It encompasses educators' methods, strategies, and approaches to facilitate learning and enhance students' intellectual, social, and emotional development. "Pedagogy involves understanding how students learn and tailoring learning methods to their needs and abilities. It covers various aspects, including curriculum design, lesson planning, instructional techniques, classroom management, and assessment". Open Dr. Azni Yati Kamaruddin, Head of Department of Education and Humanity Foundation, Faculty of Education, Malaya Univeristy in Academic Discussion of Education Science Study Program SPs UNY.

Pedagogical approaches may vary depending on the philosophy of education, cultural context, the field of study, and the age and stage of development of learners. Pedagogy is a comprehensive framework that guides educators' instructional practice to create effective and meaningful student learning experiences.

"New pedagogy" refers to emerging or innovative pedagogical approaches that differ from or beyond conventional teaching and learning methods. New pedagogies often aim to overcome the limitations of traditional approaches and adapt to the changing needs of learners in the 21st century.

While there is no specific single term or label that encompasses all new pedagogical approaches, some common terms and concepts associated with innovative teaching and learning methods include Progressive Pedagogy, Constructivist Pedagogy, Inquiry-based Learning, Problem-based Learning, Project-based Learning, Experiential Learning, and Personalized Learning.

In the event, which was attended by Lecturers and Students of the IP Study Program, Azni Yati explained that the current Pedagogy Trend includes Flipped Classroom, Gamification, Design Thinking, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Adaptive Learning Place-Based Education.

The future of pedagogy with artificial intelligence (AI) has significant potential to change the way education is delivered and experienced. Some of the potential benefits of AI with pedagogy are Personalized Learning, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Enhanced Assessment and Feedback, Intelligent Content Creation, Collaboration and Support for Teachers.
