40TH ANNIVERSARY OF UNY GRADUATE SCHOOL: INTERNATIONALIZATION OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDY PROGRAM

Today, December 1st 2023 is the 40th anniversary of UNY Graduate School (SPS). Many things have happened here during those 40 years. First, in 2019, UNY Graduate School has 38 Study Programs (Prodi), with the composition of 33 Master Study Programs (S-2) and Doctoral Programs (S-3). A total of 15 study programs are accredited international accreditation from ASIIN, ASIC, AUNQA. In that year, State University of Yogyakarta (UNY) had a new governance organization, where all monodisciplinary study programs were brought to the faculty, leaving only 5 multidisciplinary study programs at Graduate School UNY (SPS UNY). Furthermore, SPS UNY developed two new multidisciplinary study programs, so now there are 7 multidisciplinary study programs in SPS UNY. Multidisciplinary Programs in SPS UNY, namely: (1) Doctoral of Technology and Vacational Education Study Program (S-3), (2) Doctoral of Educational Research and Evaluation Study Program (S-3), (3) Doctoral of Science Education Study Program (S-3), (4) Master of Technology and Vacational Technology Education Study Program, (5) Master's Study Program in Educational Research and Evaluation (PEP), (6) Master's Study Program in Environmental Science (IL), and (7) Master's Study Program in Educational Human Resource Management (MSDMP). Of the seven study programs, five (numbers 1-5) have been accredited as Excellent by Lamdik, and two new products (numbers 6 and 7) have been accredited B.

The PTK (Technology and Vocational Education) study program is a vocational education or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) that prepares experts to work in various fields of business and industry. The international TVET conference was held in Batam on 3-5 July 2023 with the theme 'Collaborative Framework on TVET Reformation in Encouraging Innovation through Collaboration Between TVET and Business Entity/Industry. Collaboration between the world of education, business, and industry (Dudi) is the main element of TVET (Kemendibud, 2023). So, PTK prepares not only vocational school teachers or PTK lecturers but also skilled personnel for the industrial and business world. It is accredited as Excellent by Lamdik, and the two new study programs (numbers 6 and 7) are accredited B.

The Educational Research and Evaluation Study Program (PEP) has three concentrations: research, evaluation, and measurement. This study program produces researchers who have broad insight into the field of research. Apart from that, this study program also makes evaluation experts who can develop evaluation models in various fields. This study program also produces measurement experts who can build measurement tools or instruments in multiple fields, especially education.

The Education Science Study Program (IP) produces experts in Education. This study program has many concentrations, including Social Sciences Education, Digital Education, Community Education, Multicultural Education, and Early Childhood Education. Meanwhile, the Master's program in Environmental Science and Educational Human Resource Management is a new study program. The Environmental Science Study Program produces experts in environmental management, pollution management, and environmental impact analysis. The MSDMP Study Program provides Education for people specializing in resource management in the education sector.

Two main programs are being developed by SPS UNY in 2024: the development of multidisciplinary study programs and the internationalization of study programs. Many references related to interdisciplinary study programs, from the very simple to the roots of philosophy (Barakhsanova et al., 2020; Cheng, 2022; Exter, 2018; Fonseca et al., 2021). Sudikan (2015) discusses monodisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary science studies at length. Simple thinking views that if a study program has a linear program from Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees, then that study program is seen as a monodisciplinary study program. Deeper thinking regarding monodisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary science concerns the epistemological and ontological study of science, as discussed by Sudikan. The Early Childhood Education Study Program (PAUD), for example, requires various fields of knowledge such as language for early childhood, science for early childhood, mathematics for early childhood, art for early childhood, sports for early childhood, curriculum, assessment, and early childhood pedagogy.

In the future, SPS UNY will focus on developing multidisciplinary study programs. This is based on the needs of modern human life, which are increasingly complex and require multi-, inter-, and trans-disciplinary knowledge to solve them. A problem cannot be solved using just one scientific discipline; it requires many scientific disciplines. For example, when a natural disaster occurs in the form of a volcanic eruption, earthquake, or tsunami, a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach is needed to deal with victims of the disaster, such as social science, economics, sociology, health science, nutrition science, psychology, and science Education.

After UNY becomes PTNBH in 2022, internationalization of study programs will become a demand. There are many references for developing international standard study programs. One reference is a ranking system, such as the World University Rank (WUR), Times Higher Education, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rank, Times Higher Education Supplement (THES), and World University Rank (WUR). Each ranking system has different indicators. Likewise, the weight of each indicator is additional. These indicators include Teaching (the learning environment), Research (volume, income, and reputation), Citations (research influence), International outlook (staff, students, and research), Industry income (knowledge transfer), Green matrix, Popularity, Comfort and security, openness and graduate employability.

Of course, achieving a World's Class University (WCU) degree takes work. It takes solid and consistent effort to achieve this. SPS has started with small things, such as benchmarking the curriculum with similar study programs that are already advanced abroad, inviting professors from abroad to give lectures (visiting professors), sending professors to give lectures abroad, inviting 4-5 professors to conduct discussions with lecturers and students (academic discussions), translate RPS, teaching materials and Powerpoint into English, English language training for lecturers and staff, and increase articles in internationally reputable journals.

Apart from that, SPS is also trying to improve the quality of graduates following the indicators in the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) (Presidential Decree no. 8 of 2012), where Master's and Doctoral graduates must have specific criteria. Master's graduates must (1) be able to develop knowledge, technology, and art in their scientific field or professional practice through research, to produce innovative and tested work, and (2) be able to solve problems in science, technology, and art in its scientific field through an inter or multidisciplinary approach. S-3 graduates must (1) be able to develop new knowledge, technology, and art in their scientific field or professional practice through research, to produce creative, original, and tested work, (2) be able to solve scientific, technological problems, and arts in their scientific field through an inter, multi, and transdisciplinary approach, and (3) able to manage, lead, and develop research and development that is beneficial for the benefit of humanity, and able to gain national and international recognition. Finally, Happy 40th Anniversary of UNY. It will continue to develop and become a world-class university. (SS)
