COACHING CLINIC S2 PTK WITH PROF. FERRY JIE

In the last three weeks, every Tuesday, YSU Master of Technology and Vocational Education (S2 PTK) students had the opportunity to take brief consultation on writing scientific papers with Prof. Ferry Jie from Edith Cowan University, Australia. Prof. Ferry Jie himself is an active researcher who from 2015 until now has published more than 50 reputable journal articles including those indexed by Scopus Q1 and Q2 as well as referenced conference papers. This online meeting was facilitated by Prof. Putu Sudira, M.P. as the Head of the PTK Master's Degree Study Program.

Presentations related to article writing delivered by Prof. Ferry were done in levels every week. The first week, Prof. Ferry explained about the strategies and tactics of publishing top-tier international journals (Scopus Q1 and Q2). The second week, he explained how to make quality articles that can be published by reputable journals from the results of research that has been done. Third week, Prof. Ferry expounded about how to submit an article with a good structure accompanied by a cover letter.

Besides the presentations, Prof. Ferry also provided hands-on practical experience to students by dividing them into small groups to practice. The first week, small groups were asked to choose the main topic to be discussed along with accompanying keywords so that they could create a title from the topic and keywords. The second week, students were asked to practice citing indexed articles Scopus Q1, Q2 as references. In the third week, students were asked to compile relevant summaries from the cited literature review as the opening paragraph of the article. The results of the discussion were then presented and each presentation was given feedback by Prof. Ferry.

Scientific paper is one of the mandatory graduation requirements for Master level students at YSU. The required paper must also be published by an indexed journal, at least by SINTA 2 or an international published journal. Tips for successfully writing a good scientific paper from Prof. Ferry is by reading a lot of at least 25 journal articles that relate and correspond to the topic. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Putu hoped that students could collaborate with Prof. Ferry in constructing to publishing articles in reputable journals Scopus Q1 or Q2. (Juliandarini/ant)
